City of Wichita remains in Stage 2 Drought Condition

As the spring gardening season begins, the City of Wichita is reminding residents that water restrictions are still in effect. The Stage 2 restrictions were implemented last August as the water levels at Cheney Reservoir diminished. Stage 3 of the drought response will be discussed should water levels within Cheney's conservation pool reach a 12-month average of below 50%.

Under the current Stage 2, outdoor non-crucial watering for ALL water users is restricted to once a week. Businesses, unless their core economic activity relies on outdoor water use such as nurseries, are not exempt from the restrictions. Visit the city's drought update website for a restriction map to check what days residents can water in their neighborhood.

Wichita Public Works staff will send a warning letter if a violation to water restriction occurs. If high water use continues after a warning, water users will be levied a $50 penalty and a $100 penalty each subsequent violation. Residents who want to report suspected overwatering may also do so via the City of Wichita app or by calling the call center at (316) 942-4482.
