
At Tuesday’s Wichita City Council meeting, the city agreed to a $300 thousand capital campaign funding agreement with The Kansas African American Museum.
The museum has purchased a new property at 201 N. Main in downtown Wichita and plans to use the capital campaign to complete renovations there.
The Wichita Public Library Foundation and City of Wichita have signed a memorandum of understanding for funding improvements at branch libraries in town. The foundation is about half-way to its $2 million-dollar capital campaign goal to fund improvements at Westlink, Alford, Maya Angelou and Rockwell Libraries.
Finally, A $2.6 million contract renewal for next year with Visit Wichita was approved by the council. Visit Wichita promotes tourism, sports and convention activities to the city.
In 2022, visitors spent approximately $1.5 billion in the Wichita area and contributed over $200 million in state and local taxes.
The contract is paid for through a 6% transient guest tax on hotel and motel rooms in town.
