Council OK’s several improvement projects around Wichita

The Wichita City Council approved several improvement projects on Tuesday.

$900 thousand will fund the design phase of multiple street projects around the city. They include 135th Street West from Central to 13th Street North, Commerce and St. Francis area improvements in the downtown, and Douglas from Seneca to Meridian. Construction is slated to begin in 2024 and 2025.

The city will make pedestrian safety improvements in the area of McLean Boulevard from Central to 13th Street North and the pedestrian crossing near 10th Street North at a cost of $500 thousand.

The council approved $300 thousand in railroad crossing improvements for 2021 and 2022 combined.

Finally, the city plans to replace a 16-inch water main at George Washington Boulevard from Mt. Vernon to Pawnee Streets. Designing the project will cost $800 thousand.
