The Wichita City Council voted to terminate the K-96 STAR Bond community improvement district in the northeast part of the city.

The CID was established in 2013 and was one of four funding sources used to pay for the construction of the K-96 and Greenwich interchange. The district includes the Wichita Sports Forum, Dave & Busters, along with other restaurants and retail stores.
A one percent tax began in October 2015 and was slated to run for 22 years. However, the CID has generated enough revenue to pay off the bonds in just seven, and will save shoppers and visitors about $400 thousand per year.
Vice Mayor Becky Tuttle says the district provides a host of amenities not only for Wichitans but out of town visitors too.
The city will inform the state by July 1, giving the necessary 3-month notice to terminate the district by September 30.
In other news, the council voted to approve a testing plan services agreement for the northwest water facility under construction.
The council approved the nearly $340 thousand deal with consulting firm CDM Smith, who will help test the critical systems within the facility. This will ensure the facility can produce the required 120 million gallons of water per day and also ensure the quality of water and required levels of redundancy are addressed.
The facility located near I-235 and Zoo Boulevard is set to come on line in late 2024 or early 2025.
