Sedgwick County Commission declares February as Black History Month

At Wednesday's Sedgwick County Commission meeting, Chairman Ryan Baty proclaimed February as Black History Month.

Denise Sherman, Executive Director of The Kansas African American Museum, spoke at the meeting and invited people to explore the creativity, resilience and the innovation of black culture.

Black History Month was officially recognized for the first time in 1976 by President Gerald Ford.
