One victim has died following a Friday morning house fire in the northwest part of Wichita, east of 13th & Maize Road.
A woman, described as being in her mid-50s, wasn’t breathing when responding rescue crews found her inside the home in the 1300 block of N. Westlink.
The fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m., with reports that people were trapped inside.
Crews made it to the scene within about three minutes, assisting the woman.
In a secondary search, crews learned there were others in the home, including children. Everybody got out of the home, but all five people were hospitalized at the burn unit at Via Christi St. Francis hospital in downtown Wichita. Some of the victims were facing various burn injuries, and others suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Wichita Fire Department specified that a seven-year-old and his 28-year-old mother were in critical condition after the fire. Two smaller children, a five-year-old and a three-year-old, had less-severe injuries.
