Parts of downtown Wichita lost power Friday after a fire broke out in an underground electrical vault.

It happened around 4:30 Friday afternoon, when a grass fire was reported near 3rd and Market. Wichita Fire crews arrived on the scene and found the fire in that underground electrical vault. Evergy disconnected power then attempted to restore power through a secondary grid, but were unable to without shutting off power temporarily to the area between Murdock to Maple and from Market to Seneca.

Power was shut down around 10:30 p.m. and restored within an hour.
