Eight killed after fiery crash in eastern Kansas

A head-on crash in Franklin County has resulted in the deaths of eight people. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol the accident happened just before 7:45 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 169 northeast of Greely, Kan. A southbound SUV attempted to pass another vehicle and pulled into the northbound lanes, striking a northbound car head-on.

Both vehicles caught fire, eight people were killed in the crash.  KHP has identified the deceased.

37-year-old Alexander Ernst of Ames, Iowa
76-year-old John Elliott of Chesterfield, Mo.
33-year-old Madalyn Elliott of Chesterfield, Mo.
69-year-old Norleen Elliott of Chesterfield, Mo.
33-year-old Jaimon Gilstrap of Tulsa, Ok.
14-year-old Kyron Gilstrap of Tulsa, Ok.
14-year-old Donald Laster of Tulsa, Ok.
41-year-old Wayne Walls of Talala, Ok.

Another passenger in the SUV, a 14-year-old was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  U.S. 169 was closed for several hours.
