Former Wichita Wings player, Chico Borja has passed away. He was 61.
In a Facebook post Thursday, the Wichita Wings shared that the former stand-out player in the 80's passed away on Monday.
The Wings post:
The orange army is gutted today by the passing of Wichita Wings LEGEND Chico Borja.
As we gather together composing this post and sorting through all of the many photos and memories, we felt no image could say more about Chico than the (included photo). He is a man who not only raised his children here but embraced many others through coaching. As a player, he supplied thousands with some of their fondest family memories. He was simply amazing!
Chico came to Wichita with his passion for soccer, and quickly made us all fans. As the years went on it became apparent that Wings fans were in fact more than his fans, we were his equals and were treated as extended family.
It's now been decades since he moved away yet his presence as a player, coach and mentor runs deep in our community still today.
Last year Chico was inducted with the first class of Wings Hall of Fame inductees. With tears running he said "I'm blessed to be back in Wichita, it will always be our home."
There is no doubt we will miss the man known as "The American Dream", and we will never undervalue the heart and soul that was given.
