Former WPD Chief joins lawsuit against city government

Former WPD Chief joins lawsuit against city government
City of Wichita

Former Wichita Chief of Police Gordon Ramsay has joined 2 current deputy chiefs and a former deputy chief, in their claims against the City of Wichita. Ramsay's notice of intent, filed Monday, is requesting $400-thousand-dollars to be put toward hiring an independent investigator.

It also states Ramsay's intent to join Deputy Chiefs José Salcido and Chester Pinkston and former Deputy Chief Wanda Givens, in calling for City Manager Robert Layton and City HR Director Chris Bezruki to resign immediately.

The notice alleges in part that Layton has asked, then Chief Ramsay to show favor and give a pass in an ongoing investigation to a WPD Captain under criminal investigation. It also alleges that Layton lied to the public and City Council when he denied knowing about the texting investigation, despite WPD leadership personally informing him about the text messages.

There has not been a response from Layton or Bezruki about the notice. The City and WPD says they cannot respond to pending or potential litigation.
