The Kansas Department of Labor has yet another problem to go along with clogged phone lines and old computer systems - people being drawn in by fake websites and social media accounts that purport to be from the KDOL, but are actually run by scammers.
The KDOL wants to alert the public about fake social media accounts and websites impersonating the Kansas Department of Labor. Do not click on any links or provide any personal information to these accounts. Make sure you are only using GetKansasBenefits.gov or PUA.GetKansasBenefits.gov when accessing your unemployment benefits account.
Contacted on social by a potential scammer? Check the name of the account for any spelling errors or letters replaced by numbers, like having a zero instead of the letter O. Check that the handle is correct. The official Twitter handle is "@KansasDOL". Check how many likes and followers the page has. The official KDOL page has over 30 thousand.
Anyone receiving a message or comment from a social media account impersonating KDOL is asked to report it immediately at dol.ks.gov/fraud.
