Sedgwick County Commissioners have approved nearly $20.4 million in improvements to the Regional Forensic Science Center.
The plan will expand the DNA lab building and provide new equipment.
Commissioner Ryan Baty explained the center was experiencing delays with completing lab work, like toxicology reports, and something had to be done.
Construction is expected to start next year.
The resolution passed 4-1, with Commissioner Jim Howell providing the lone no vote. He said he was not opposed to the plan, but rather opposed to the building site.
