Kansas Republicans have selected state Senate President Ty Masterson as their nominee for governor, setting up a November showdown to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. Masterson defeated a crowded GOP field in Tuesday's primary after earning the endorsement of President Donald Trump.
Masterson will face Democratic state Sen. Cindy Holscher, who won her party's primary. The race is expected to be one of Kansas' most closely watched statewide contests as Republicans look to regain the governor's office after two terms under Kelly.
The August primary also featured several other statewide races and a proposed constitutional amendment on how Kansas Supreme Court justices are selected. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
