A Kansas judge has denied a motion to dissolve a court order on changing a persons sex on state driver's licenses.
Senate Bill 180 defines a person's sex as how they were identified at birth.
The judge held a hearing Wednesday in Shawnee County District Court to consider rescinding her order to stop the changes that were being made.
Kansas Department of Revenue Attorney Ted Smith, argued the new law, conflicts with other laws already on the books. While Attorney General Kris Kobach argued that keeping the designation on state driver's licenses is an issue of public safety.
After listening to arguments from both sides, Judge Teresa Watson denied the motion.
The order will stay in place for two weeks with a possibility that the judge could extend it further while a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Kris Koback moves forward.
