KBI investigating officer-involved shooting near Topeka

The KBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Shawnee County on Friday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., the Kansas Highway Patrol stopped a suspected impaired driver near the 2400 block of SE 45th street, on the southeast side of Topeka.

During a field sobriety test, the driver ran from the roadway and a foot chase ensued. A physical altercation occurred between the Trooper and the man. During the incident, the Trooper deployed a Taser, pepper spray, and fired his duty weapon, striking the man.

The suspect was transported to a Topeka hospital where he is in stable condition.

After the KBI completes its investigation, the findings of will be presented to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review.
