The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the suspected driver in a fatal hit and run crash that killed a 20-year-old University of Kansas student.
Authorities said an investigation determined the victim, Elsa McGrain, a pre-med student from Omaha, was struck around 6 p.m. Thursday, likely while she was out running in north Lawrence.
Her body wasn't discovered until around 3:30 Friday morning along the road.
McGrain, a member of Chi Omega sorority at KU, was scheduled to graduate in 2026.
The Sheriff’s Office shared a photo of the vehicle that they believe is involved. It is a white truck with no side markings.
