
Tuesday was Primary Election Day in Sedgwick County. But, only 6% of registered voters made it to the polls.
Officials say only 27% of eligible voters in the County were eligible to vote, based on where they lived to vote for district one candidates or district one and five for the school board election.
The unofficial final results indicate who will be moving on to the General Election in November. In the District -1 Wichita City Council race, Joseph Shepard received 48% of the votes. He will face Lawanda Deshazer who gained 20% of the vote.
In the District-1 School Board Race, Incumbent Diane Albert received 34% of the votes and challenger Mackenzi Truelove received 31% of the vote.
In District-5 Incumbent Kathy Bond is moving on to the General Election with 37% of the vote, as well as Amy Jensen who also received 37% of the vote.
Voters in Maize approved a 1% sales tax that will go into effect in January. 241, or 66% voted in favor of the tax, while 124, or 34% voted no.
The measure will have 85% of the tax revenue go to improving roads and sidewalks. The other 15% will go to reducing property taxes in Maize.
