A major street in Wichita will be reconstructed in the coming years.
Improvements are coming to Harry Street, between 127th and 143rd Street East. Harry will expand to a three-lane road with a center turn lane, curbs, improved storm sewers, a six-foot wide sidewalk and a 10-foot wide multi-use path, along with other features.
Council member Becky Tuttle represents District 2 where this project resides. She says staff did a great job explaining details of the plan to citizens at a recent meeting.
The nearly $1.14 million project is set to begin in 2028 and should be completed in 2029.
Shifting gears, since 1972 the city of Wichita has sponsored the annual River Festival. So, it should come as no surprise that the partnership will continue in 2025.
The council approved $40,000 for the sponsorship and in-kind services, including an estimated $135 thousand for public safety related expenditures, notably from the Police and Fire Departments.
The nine-day event brings in around $27 million to the community.
The Wichita Riverfest begins Friday, May 30 and will wrap up on Saturday, June 7. Admission buttons are available for $15 until April 26. After that, they will cost you $20.
