A Storm Team 12 Weather Alert remains active for Friday and Saturday as a strong winter storm is forecast to impact much of Kansas with accumulating snow and dangerously cold wind chills.

According to the latest forecast, snow is expected to begin in western Kansas late Friday morning and spread eastward through the afternoon. Wichita could start seeing snow after 4 p.m. Friday, though road conditions may remain relatively manageable during the evening commute.

Once snow begins, conditions will deteriorate quickly Friday night across much of the state. Steady snowfall will continue into Saturday morning, with a brief lull possible around mid-morning. A second round of snow will move into the region Saturday afternoon and evening, keeping travel hazards high into the night.

Forecast models show heavier snow amounts across south-central and eastern Kansas, where 6–8 inches of snow are possible in some locations. Amounts will taper off farther west and north.

In addition to snow, dangerously low wind chill values are expected Saturday and Sunday, with some areas feeling as cold as –15 to –25 degrees.

Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous travel, bitter cold, and winter conditions throughout the weekend.
