The return of Wichita Wind Surge minor-league baseball at Equity Bank Park downtown is again drawing attention to long-discussed plans for the West Bank of the Arkansas River; city leaders have targeted redevelopment there for more than a decade, but some signature projects still lack firm timelines.
'One project nearing completion is "The Hub", a new transit facility in the 200 block of S. Sycamore, slated to replace the old downtown transit center.
"The Hub" is expected to modernize Wichita’s transit system, while also expanding parking options near the stadium.
The hope was originally to finish the project in the six months during the off-season, and have the parking garage ready by Opening Day for the Wind Surge. But, that did not happen, and the garage is now expected to be ready in late spring or early summer.
