Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies and police officers responded to a report of an active shooter at a small air strip in Maize, off of 45th Street North between Ridge & Tyler; the call came in around 9:20 a.m.
The owner of the airfield said someone was shooting, and then somebody left the scene in a vehicle.
Law enforcement officers did find evidence of gunfire, but not find any victims. Some people in the area reportedly heard a half-dozen gunshots.
Officials have now detained two people, ages 35 and 49; the younger detainee is being held on a federal arrest warrant.
The small airport mostly consists of a few hangars used for storage.
While investigators were trying to figure out what happened, they blocked 45th North.
