Man shot & killed south of downtown Wichita

A 35-year-old man was shot and killed in Wichita; it happened after 5:00 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of S. Market, south of Market & Kellogg.

Police initially responded to a 911 call for gunfire in the 1000 block of S. Market. Officers searched the area but found no scene, victim, nor witness; 10 minutes later, officers were sent to another call in the 900 block of S. Market, where they discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his lower extremities.

Sedgwick County EMS transported the victim in critical condition to a hospital at 5:39 a.m.; the victim was pronounced deceased at 6:00 a.m.

As of mid-afternoon, no suspect is in custody, and the investigation remains active.
