Wichita Mayor Lily Wu tells KNSS News she spent part of her weekend in Topeka, at a meeting of the League of Kansas Municipalities. She serves on the League's board of directors. Wu says Wichita has not been represented at the League for a "couple years." She says it's a great way to share information with other city leaders in the state.
The Kansas Legislature has turned down two bills that could have provided 20 million dollars for a one-stop resource center for the homeless in Wichita. Mayor Wu tells KNSS News the Sedgwick County Multi-Agency Center (MAC) will go ahead with support from local government, businesses, and non-profits. The idea is to expose the unhoused to all manner of resources to help get them off the streets and contributing "to our community."
The city council has scheduled a virtual town hall meeting Tuesday at 5 pm, after the business meeting. The town halls will address street maintenance and crime prevention.
