Wichita Mayor Lily Wu has returned from a meeting with eight other American mayors in Switzerland. The mayor tells KNSS News we can learn a few things from the Swiss. For instance, the Swiss have what is called a "direct democracy." They vote on specific issues, not just candidates. Wu says the Swiss are committed to three "common values;" respect, self responsibility, and cooperation."
The Police Executive Research Forum reports there were more police hirings in 2023 than in the four previous years after the pandemic and the killing of George Floyd. Mayor Wu says she is "very much supportive" of police chief Joe Sullivan's efforts to attract a diverse pool of WPD applicants.
Wu commented during Mondays with the Mayor, on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
