Wichita Mayor Lily Wu tells KNSS News the weekend blizzard drove many people indoors, but others had essential work to do. She singled out those who cleared the roads, private businesses, and first-responders for her thanks.
At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita City Council will look at this year's Kansas Legislature agenda. Mayor Wu says it's a team effort for local government. She says the City, Sedgwick County, WSU, the Wichita school district and Chamber of Commerce will concentrate on economic development, housing, and infrastructure.
Wu says the new winter homeless shelter was ready to help the unhoused during the brutal weekend blizzard. But only 13 people accepted police invitations to be taken to the shelter, and 86 refused the offer. Wu says the City needs to work at convincing homeless people to use the new shelter. Wu commented during Mondays with the Mayor on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
