At Tuesday's Wichita City Council meeting, we learned how the city's finances performed in the first three months of 2021.
Mark Manning with the city said the general fund revenues and expenditures are mostly consistent with what they were expecting. However, Police, Fire, Court, MABCD and Public Works are all spending more so far this year.
The pandemic continues to hit the hotel industry hard, with transient guest tax revenues down $1 million as expected. Manning says the pandemic has had the opposite effect on the golf fund, with more rounds of golf being played at city courses--around 20,000 rounds total.
There is some bright news, as sales tax revenue is up 2.2% over a year ago and the general fund is expected to be balanced by the end of the year.
