The city of Wichita plans more road improvements in the coming year.

The city has 160 lane-miles of dirt streets. The city council approved $1.5 million to pave up to 2% of them in 2024. Wichita's 10-year capital improvement plan allocates $35 million to continue the work. The city will first begin paving over dirt roads near schools and in disadvantaged neighborhoods.

The council also approved $13 million to continue the city's outsourced pavement preservation program, or OP3. The city plans to address roughly 315 lane-miles of roadways with a variety of methods best suited for the amount of traffic the roadway carries.

According to city figures, the planned expenditures are proportional to the amount of pavement in each council district.

The city of Wichita will spend more on its golf courses.

The golf system has seen increased numbers of rounds played again this year, over 140 thousand through the end of August.  More rounds mean more revenue, over $4 million during that same time period.

Even with increased costs for concession supplies, maintenance and parts for the cart fleet and other commodities, along with building maintenance, the golf system should end the year with around a million-dollar balance.

Based on the performance, the city will transfer $500 thousand to complete capital improvement projects.
