Not all districts voting in Sedgwick County Primary Election

Primary Election

Closed polling locations for some districts have a few voters confused over today's (Tuesday), primary election in Sedgwick County. Election Commissioner Angela Caudillo says 20 polling sites are open, in areas with primary elections that include: Wichita City Council Districts 3 and 6, and Park City Council Ward 1.

"The reason there are not more primary contests for other city council positions and school district boards, is that the number of candidates who filed in those contests, were not high enough to trigger a primary election," Caudillo explains.

The number of candidates needed to require a primary is set by city ordinances and the school districts.  "In contests where the number of candidates fell below that threshold, such as in Wichita City Council District 1, for instance, all candidates who filed, automatically advanced to the upcoming General Election in November," she said.

You can call the election office with any questions at 316/660-7100.  Or, visit the election office web page to find a sample ballot for your district.  If there isn't one, that means there isn't a contested race for your district.
