The Wichita Police Department is investigating a shooting that fatally injured 17-year-old Diego Benitez of Wichita. At approximately 7:00 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to a shooting call to the 1300 block of West Walker, that's near Southwest Boulevard and McCormick.
Upon the officer's arrival, they located Benitez, who had been shot several times and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The investigation revealed an unknown suspect contacted Benitez and shot him multiple times.
Police say this was not a random incident, and drugs are believed to be a factor. Investigators are following up on leads and are asking for the public's help.
