U.S. Figure Skating has updated its assessment of the victims from its community in the American Airlines Flight 5342 crash. Initially reporting 14 passengers were from the skating world, the organization now states that 28 passengers—nearly half of the 60 on board—were connected to figure skating. This high number stems from the fact that Wichita had recently hosted the national championships, with many skaters, coaches, and family members staying in the area for a subsequent development camp at the Wichita Ice Center.
