Police: Andover teen injured in Wichita shooting

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is investigating a shooting that seriously injured an boy, 17. from Andover.

It happened around 3:00 a.m. Friday morning. Officers were called to a local hospital for a walk-in shooting victim with a gunshot wound to his upper chest.


The teen had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

The investigation revealed the incident took place in the parking of the 900 block of West Central Ave.  Officers learned that before the incident, the teen had a brief verbal interaction, with an unknown man, and as the unknown man was leaving the scene in a vehicle with other unknown males, shots were fired striking the teen once.

At the time of the incident, the parking lot was occupied by several juveniles.

Officers used Flock and developed a suspect vehicle and tag. A follow-up is in progress regarding that vehicle. The investigators are still working to fully determine what led up to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
