The Wichita Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a traffic collision that resulted in the death of an Andover man.
Tuesday night, at approximately 10:08 p.m., Wichita Police Department officers were called to the intersection of 13th and Greenwich in response to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that a man had been involved in a traffic collision with a Ford Explorer at the intersection. All parties involved inthe initial collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
However, as the man, identified as 71-year-old Billy Wineinger exited his vehicle to assess the damage, a black Toyota 4-Runner, traveling east on 13th St., entered the intersection and struck Mr. Wineinger's vehicle, causing it to hit him. This secondary collision caused fatal injuries to Mr. Wineinger.
The driver of the 4-Runner, identified as a Wichita woman, 41, was taken into custody and was booked on suspicion of Involuntary Manslaughter.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this fatal collision. This is the 28th traffic fatality of the year.
