Sedgwick County Commissioners approved an amendment to their memorandum of understanding with the Kansas Highway Patrol on plans for a shared aircraft hangar at Jabara Airport.
The original MOU was signed in June. Wednesday's changes clarify expectations for the long-term lease arrangement during the first 20 years when debt service is in place then over the next 30 after the debt has been paid off.
Commissioner Ryan Baty said the public is safer because of KHP's presence in Sedgwick County.
The KHP is currently stationed at Cook Airfield east of Derby, but plans to leave. The annual cost of the proposed $8.5 million hangar is estimated to be around $838 thousand.
