Officers were called and found the girl suffering from bites to her face and head. The woman had bites to her hands. They both were transported to an area hospital in serious, but not life-threatening condition. The woman was later discharged. The girl underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators said the dog belongs to the woman, and that there had been no previous aggressive behavior from the animal.

It's not known what caused the animal to become aggressive.  WPD and Animal Control are investigating.
