Wichita police say the search warrants served south of Haysville and near 31st Street South & Arkansas are related to a year-long drug investigation with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the warrants address “a transnational drug cartel involved in the manufacture of illegal narcotics in our community.”

The Sheriff’s Office said possible explosives were found during the investigation.

Several law enforcement agencies worked the scene at 87th South & Meridian, including the sheriff’s office, the Sedgwick County Fire Department, and Sedgwick County EMS.

FBI agents and federal ATF personnel were also spotted on the scene.

The Wichita Police bomb squad was called to the scene, including the department’s bomb squad robot.

Both lanes of Meridian were closed from 87th Street South to 97th. Residents in three homes directly south of the house where possible explosives were found were asked to leave during the investigation.
