The Sedgwick County Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to add Presidents' Day back to the list of holidays observed by the county.
New Commissioner Ryan Baty made the proposal, saying it was good for the morale of county staff.
Back in November, budget concerns prompted the board to replace Presidents' Day with Juneteenth, instead of simply adding an 11th holiday. Officials now say the budget can support bringing back Presidents’ Day and it’s projected to cost the county around $828 thousand.
Commissioners have instructed county staff to come up with a proposal by November that would add a floating holiday in place of Presidents' Day or Juneteenth.
