Red Cross will host a blood drive in honor of former Maize high student and current Kansas University student Hannah Soderstorm on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Maize United Methodist Church.

Hannah Soderstrom is an advocate for blood donation and childhood cancer research. She received more than 50 transfusions during her treatment for leukemia. To date, Hannah's 10 blood drives collected nearly 400 donations.

"I know from experience that many of the children undergoing cancer treatments need transfusions," said Steve Soderstrom, Hannah's father. "It's been a real emotional roller coaster since Hannah's diagnosis in October 2016. One thing I do know is that having blood readily available is important in helping kids fight cancer. My family and I invite the community to attend this drive and donate blood in honor of my daughter and all others who need blood." This is the fourth year the Soderstorm will host a blood drive in honor of Hannah who is now 4 years post-chemotherapy treatment for leukemia.

Those who give blood in the month of February will be automatically entered for a chance to win a three-night trip to Clearwater Beach, Florida.

To schedule a blood donation appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org, use the Blood Donor App or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
