The Fire Department Chief of the City of Russell is recovering in a Wichita hospital after being injured in a structure fire Friday night.
It happened just after 9:00 p.m. in the 1700 block of N. Main Street in Russell. Crews had arrived on the scene when an explosion occurred, injuring Fire Chief Dylan Riedel. He was transported to a local hospital but later flown by EagleMed to the burn unit of a Wichita hospital.
Fire crews put out the blaze. The Kansas State Fire Marshall will assist in determining how the fire got started.
