A Federal judge has ruled in favor of a Salina business in its fight with the city over panting a mural on the side of their building.
The judge ruled Wednesday that the City of Salina cannot stop the Cozy Inn owner Stephen Howard from completing a mural on his restaurant’s exterior, saying parts of the city's sign ordinance was unconstitutional.
The dispute began when city officials halted work on the mural. However, the judge denied Cozy Inn’s request for a broader injunction against the entire sign code.
The city said it is working with its attorneys to evaluate the broader implications of the court’s order and potential next steps towards resolution of the matter, which as already cost the city over $500,000 in legal expenses.
