Haysville’s $80 million bond for school infrastructure improvements passed with around 75% of voters in favor; nearly 2,000 voters took part in the election, a 15% voter turnout.

The approved bond money will pay for infrastructure improvements, including roof repairs, HVAC systems, parking lots, and interior finishes.

An economic expert from Newman University in Wichita, Dr. Larry Straub, expected the state of the economy, paired with an increase in property valuations, affected voters’ attitudes going into the polls.

Votes will be canvassed on April 14.

In Mulvane, two potential bond-issue proposals were likely voted down.

Question 1 was for a potential $50 million in bond money to pay for infrastructure improvements at multiple schools in Mulvane -- that was voted down 885 (no votes) to 814 (yes votes), although mail-in ballots are still pending.

Question 2 in Mulvane was a $9 million proposal to build a new early childhood education center, and that was voted down, with 58% of voters saying 'no'.
