Sedgwick County commissioners have approved an interlocal agreement to help revitalize the city of Kechi.

The community has been slow to grow recently, unlike their neighbors in Bel Aire and Park City. Kechi has had one residential building permit in the last two years.

Residential homes being revitalized are eligible to receive a 100% property tax rebate for 5 years. New construction is eligible to receive a 50% tax rebate.

Chairman Ryan Baty says the program can help communities without a financial risk to county government.

To qualify, construction must begin after the application date, improvements must increase the property value by 15% or $15,000 and all work must comply with city codes. The program will end December 31, 2029.
