
Sedgwick County Commissioners made adjustments and simplified the fee schedule for free trade zones applications.
The Foreign Trade Zone Act of 1934 encouraged foreign trade by setting up the zones on U.S. soil, which allows for a deferral on duties. Sedgwick County was granted FTZ status in 1989.
A general purpose zone or subzone application, activation and annual fee will each cost $2,500. The new fee schedule will be submitted to the executive secretary of the foreign trade zone board.
Chairman Pete Meitzner said he's in favor of more red carpet and less red tape.
Watco Transloading LLC from Parsons submitted their application and was approved 5-0.
