The Sedgwick County Commission has approved a permit for a wireless communications tower in the southeast part of the county.

The 195-foot tower will be constructed on the southeast corner of 71st Street South and 99th Street East.

The proposal was approved by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission in January. The county commission considered the application in March, but sent it back to the MAPC for further clarification.

Several members of the public opposed the plan from the get-go and due to the size of the official protest, the commission needed a super majority vote (4 to 1) to pass the request. While Commissioner Jim Howell was the lone no-vote, the permit was granted.
