Sedgwick County Commissioners spent the majority of their meeting Wednesday talking about the 2022 budget.

Commissioners discussed a variety of topics, including hazard pay, EMT training, COMCARE and senior services, with the latter about a 20 minute discussion. Commissioner David Dennis said the four senior centers located in his district, the 3rd and the largest district in the county, was not receiving enough funding.

The county says changes to state budget law have extended the time between which the Manager’s Recommended Budget is presented and the County Commission adopts a budget. On July 14, County Manager Tom Stolz presented his 2022 Recommended Budget of $483,644,076.

Discussion will continue on potential adjustments to the Recommended Budget in advance of budget adoption day, which allows staff to have extra time to research the impact of such adjustments and report back to the Commission.

The commission will adopt the $483.6 million budget on August 25. County property tax rates are estimated to be 29.359 mills.
