The Sedgwick County Commission discussed the latest local health order at a special meeting Tuesday.
Health Officer Dr. Garold Minns' new order starts March 21 and is set to expire April 30. While the order removes all gathering and capacity restrictions, masking and social distancing requirements continue until more of the population is vaccinated.
Commissioner David Dennis made a motion to amend the order to highly recommend that individuals in schools wear a mask or face covering. While that motion passed 3-2, the county clarified later that masks are in fact still required, unless a school district’s governing body opts out of the order’s mask requirements.
Commissioner Jim Howell made a motion to have the order expire April 9, instead of the end of April. That motion failed by a 2-3 vote.
