Sedgwick County has a new county counselor.

Justin Waggoner was unanimously selected to become 8th county counselor in the county's history. He previously served as the deputy county counselor, and has been with the county for a little over 10 years.

Hear the entire proceedings of Waggoner’s selection below.

Waggoner says it will be a tough act to follow current county counselor Mike Peppoon and that he will be missed greatly. He also thanked his family for their support and to those who helped show him the way.

Mr. Peppoon will retire on June 29.

The county is looking for a new administration building and has begun the process of a potential acquisition of the Murfin building at 250 N. Water in downtown Wichita. The move does not guarantee that the building will be purchased but does mean the county will perform their due diligence.

The commission had also discussed possible construction of a new facility at either 3rd and Main, or Douglas and Water in the downtown area. The county has about 2 years left on their current lease in the downtown Ruffin Building at 100 N. Broadway.
