Sedgwick County Commissioners unanimously approved a comprehensive, independent review of the Brookhollow Apartments fire incident in October that claimed the life of 22-year-old Paoly Bedeski of Wichita.
The Wichita-Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Advisory Board held a special meeting Tuesday and unanimously recommended that the city and county review the actions of both Emergency communications and the Fire department.
Joe Thomas, Director of Purchasing with the county's Division of Finance, says the process to select an independent review team and to conduct the review will take several months. After the county releases the request for proposal, they'll need time to answer questions, narrow the list of applicants to a short-list of their top selections before deciding on the team to review the case.
Commissioner Ryan Baty said while it is very important to be prudent with the process, he says there is a sense of urgency to complete the review.
The cost will be split evenly between the city and county.
