Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett says the county needs to do more to recruit and retain lawyers.
The comments were a part of a report presented to the Sedgwick County Commission on Wednesday. In the last 10 years, the DA's office has lost 39 lawyers due to a variety of reasons from compensation, to remaining student loan debt and the overwhelming workload.
The county's annual compensation for an entry-level attorney is around $55 thousand, the lowest of six counties in the state that have their own district attorney's office.
