A Goddard Police Officer will not be charged in a fatal shooting this past February. Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett reviewed the case, saying that after an attempted traffic stop and short chase, 39-year-old Michael Trask got out of his vehicle and approached the officer with a weapon, ignoring the officer's instructions to drop the gun.
According to the Kansas Stand Your Ground Law, Bennett says the officer cannot be prosecuted, because he acted to protect himself when he shot Trask. The weapon Trask was holding turned out to be a BB Gun.
