Multiple bird exhibits have been closed at the Sedgwick County Zoo due to avian flu. A wild wood duck found dead was found on the zoo grounds. The duck tested positive for avian flu.
According to zoo officials, the strain they found is not believed to pose a high risk to humans. However; many zoo animals could be affected. As a precaution all birds, some mammals, and reptiles will temporally be kept from public view.
Zoo officials say they do not believe any of the zoo's birds are infected, but will continue to monitor the animals closely. Tickets for Penguin Encounters may still be purchased as gift certificates to be redeemed at a later date.
